Frequently asked questions
You can apply if you live in England or Wales and have (or are) an adopted child, or a
child with a Special Guardianship Order who is aged 21 or under. For full details,

You can apply at any time. We distribute grants four times a year, and you’ll be notified
of the outcome after the funding round in which your application is considered. See

Applications must usually be made by a family member – typically a parent or carer –
who lives with the adopted child, or by the adopted person themselves. However, with
your permission, a referring agency (such as your Local or Regional Authority or an
organisation like Family Futures) can apply on your behalf.
All applications must be submitted online. You can complete our application form here.
You should apply for the exact cost of the intervention. We award grants of up to a
maximum of £3,000. Payments are made directly to the supplier, not to the applicant.
Any unused funds must be returned to AME.
We’ve listed the types of interventions we commonly fund here. This list is not
exhaustive. If there’s something you can’t see, please apply anyway—we’re happy to
consider other requests.
You will need to give us proof in the form of an Adoption Certificate or Special
Guardianship Order. You will also need to provide us with details of the supplier that
you have identified as grants will go directly to them. All details will be kept confidential.

Once we have approved your grant, it will be paid directly to the supplier when the work
begins. The supplier must provide an invoice.
All payments are made by bank transfer upon receipt of an invoice from the supplier.
You can apply every year. We limit funding to one grant per adopted child within any
12-month period. If you have two adopted children, you may apply for grants for both.
No, unfortunately grants can’t be transferred to another person. However, if you know
